Our Family of 6

These sweet girls adore that baby sister they are hugging:

Abbi will come up to her and touch different parts of her saying, "I love your nose, I love your cheeks, I love your eyes..."

Karis wants to hold her all the time, and she likes to hold her so that Susanna is turned and looking at her.

Karlie has decided it is her job to teach Susanna the names of everything since she doesn't know words yet.  So she is always holding up objects to Susanna and telling her the name and colors of it.

And Susanna just loves to watch her sisters already

I sure do love my sweet family!

Fun at Grandma and Papa's pool!

We took Susanna on her first overnight stay to Grandma and Papa's house and the big girils were so excited about two days at the pool!

They think it is hilarious to watch Daddy jump off the diving board!

Grandma got some Susanna snuggles while the girls swam:

Karlie is always getting in trouble for that tongue!

Abbi was hesitant at first and Daddy showed great patience in carrying her around the pool:

But she was oh, so happy!

Susanna was pretty serious about the whole trip :)

All smiles from Karlie!

Karis loves for Daddy to get her more than anything!

Abbi stayed by the side of the pool for the first part of our swimming day and threw in all the toys:

While Karis played all over the pool and loved to be chased by Daddy:

Abbi finally got wet and wanted to kiss the fish float:
Daddy thought kissing Abbi was more fun:

Finally swimming!  She loved it and did not want to get out!
I love that happy, excited grin!

Father's Day pictures

We spent Father's Day with Mark's parents and decided it was a good chance to try to get a family picture with Susanna.  Here are some of the pictures we took:

All I Want For Christmas...

Ok, so maybe it isn't really close to Christmas time yet, but we've had fun singing the song with Karis!  The DeLong household is pretty excited about Karis losing her first teeth!

We were pretty amazed at how quickly it happened... On Saturday she started complaining that her tooth hurt and we told her maybe she was going to start losing some.  On Sunday, it did indeed feel loose! On Monday, it was so loose that Mark and I were grossed out by it.  We put the girls to bed and were sitting in the living room talking about how traumatic it was going to be when it came out.  (Our Karis is more than a little bit dramatic about things, particularly if they involve blood!)  I had just laughed and said that I was praying it would happen on Wednesday since he would be home to help and out Karis walked, grinning ear to ear with a gap in her teeth and carrying the one that had been loose.  No tears, no drama, just pure proudness and excitement.  We asked how it happened and she said she just reached up and pulled it out! We were dumbfounded and quite proud of our big little girl!  (Not to mention the fact that neither of us would have wanted to pull it :)

We don't really do the tooth fairy, so we let her pick something fun to do and she chose to go to Sweet Frog with Daddy and get frozen yogurt with her choice of toppings.  And then Daddy decided to make it a super fun day by taking she and Karlie to a splash park after lunch!

Then we were surprised again two days later when she came in our room an hour before it was time for her to get up and said the other tooth had just fallen out while she slept!  (I was so thankful she found it and didn't choke on it!)
Doesn't she look like a big girl now?
And if you are looking for a good book to read about losing teeth, One Morning In Maine by McCloskey is just delightful.  We have read it many times and I'm convinced it is one of the reasons why Karis wasn't scared about her teeth falling out at all :)

Happy Father's Day!

My girls are super blessed to have an awesome Daddy who takes the time to make them feel special, disciplines them when it is needed, teaches them about God, and plays with them every chance he gets.  We never expected to have 4 girls, but I think God knew that only a special man like Mark could handle and enjoy them.  I know we must drive him a bit crazy sometimes, but he takes it in stride and demonstrates his love for us over and over.  I am constantly amazed at how he uses almost every day off to do special things with them!  All of my big girls are complete Daddy's girls and would rather be with him than any person on earth.  And I'm pretty soon Susanna will be vying for his attention as well soon as she gets big enough to try :)  Thank you, Mark, for being the best Daddy I could ever wish for my girls!  Here are a few things they had to say about you this year:

Karis Lynn at 6 Years

So hard to believe that this sweet girl is 6 years old!

Karis Lynn loves:
... to wear only play dresses and skirts, particularly ones that curtsey well
... to read books
... to play outside with her neighbors
... to go to Classical Conversations and Sunday School
... to go to the library
... to be with her grandparents
... to play Mommy and Daddy and Kid with her sisters
... to bake with Mommy
... having Daddy tickle her and throw her around
... to take walks
... any kind of art or craft
... singing
... ballet
... her top bunk bed -- she likes having her own space in their shared room and her bed is covered in baby dolls, stuffed animals, and special treasures that she does not want Abbi to get.   But she is very particular about how it is arranged and has a hard time on sheet washing day because we have to take it all off.
... her kitty -- while Karlie usually plays dollhouse or legos or something while she listens to stories at naptime, Karis usually just lays on the bed snuggling with her kitty while she listens.  Blackie loves Karis and knows she likes to snuggle and looks forward to naptime.
... anything sweet -- she will eat just about anything in order to get dessert

Karis Lynn does not like:
... anything scary.  If a book has a scary picture in it, she will want me to take it out of her room
... when her sisters grab things from her
... when her sisters are too loud when she is reading a book.  If she is sitting on the couch reading and they start running up and down the hall squealing, she will get frustrated.
... vegetables -- we are getting ready to have a Farmer's Market veggie contest because I am determined to get my girls to eat more veggies!
...getting hurt - she is quite dramatic and makes quite the fuss when she even barely bumps her arm or something.  We are working on it :)
... when things are not fair -- if Karlie finds a quarter, she wants one, too.  If Karis gets a special treat, she wants me to save one for her sisters.  It is a fine balance to encourage her kindness but also let her know that life is not always fair :)

Karis Lynn is very:
... responsible -- she makes sure we remember everything.  She gets herself dressed and puts away her own clothes and really enjoys folding them herself.  (Not that she always remembers to put her shoes in their bin! :)  She is the ultimate rule follower and can't stand it if someone gets away with doing something she is not supposed to.
... helpful -- she loves to sweep and mop and clean with my cleaning cloths.  There are definitely times when she is more lazy and will make excuses to not straighten her room, but once we get going, she gets excited about putting it in order.  When I was pregnant, she totally understood that I could not bend over to pick things up (pregnancy backache) and was good about getting things for me.
... smart -- I know I'm her mother and I am seriously biased, but I am constantly amazed at all she knows and can remember and read.  It has been a real joy and challenge to homeschool her!  She picked up on reading sight words without my having to drill her on them at all, just by reading books.  And she remembers things from years ago that I don't even remember!
... shy in new situations and won't even smile, but once she feels comfortable, she is as happy as a lark!
... excited about her new baby sister and wants to hold her and dress her all the time.
... generous -- she loves to give random presents or artwork to friends

Karis Lynn is such a joy and I am so blessed to be her mother!!

The past two weeks...

Baby Susanna's first week of life went by way too quickly and life got pretty busy.  She is such a sweetie, but has honestly been very challenging for me as well.  I've never had a fussy newborn before!  She had some constipation issues her 2nd and 3rd week that made for some mighty bad gas pain... poor thing!  There is nothing more miserable than walking the halls at 3am with a screaming baby and being able to do nothing to relieve her pain!  (And believe me, we tried it all!)  But I was blessed to have 3 very easy babies, so I guess it is my turn to do some midnight walking :)  Susanna is starting to do better now, but still needs me to hold her pretty much all the time.  I am so thankful for my sling and moby wrap!  I really don't know what I would do without them!

Another thing that is different about Susanna is that she doesn't love her paci...  definitely a problem in the car or when she is fussy!  With my others, I would just pop them in the sling with the paci, and they would easily drift off to sleep.  But she really doesn't want it a lot of times and is actually offended when I try to give it to her and gets more angry!  And she is determined to scream til she is hysterical in the car.  Needless to say, I just want to stay home with her as much as possible :)  But I love my snuggles and even though it is tough, I don't want this newborn stage to pass too quickly!  She is just too precious!  Here are some pictures from her 2nd and 3rd week of life:

10 days old:

2 weeks old!

Abbi enjoyed a Daddy date to Sweet Frog!

And Karis and Karlie enjoyed a Daddy date at our church to watch the children's choir do a funny play:
