Tummy Time!

Karis always hated Tummy Time, so I decided to start right away with Karlie. So far, she doesn't seem to mind a bit!

This is the first (of many, I hope :) matching outfits for Karlie and Karis. karlie doesn't quite fit into it yet, but I still thought it ws cute!
I can't seem to get Karis to smile in pics with karlie yet because she is much too focused on her sister :)

Our first family photo and Karlie's first outing

We made it to church today, so Karlie got to see the world for the first time (other than the doctor's office, and that doesn't really count :) She had so much fun getting cuddled by all our friends at church. I don't think she ever really woke up for any of them, though :) She's such a sleepyhead!

Fun with Grandparents!

Karis had so much fun with her grandparents last week! My Mom stayed all week long, and my Dad was here all week except Wednesday and Thursday. I honestly don't know what I would have done without them. My Mom did all the cooking and cleaning and and laundry and they helped so much with Karis so I could sleep and shower and get used to my new baby! Its a little overwhelming to think of being by myself this week, but I figure I have to start sometime :) Karlie will be easy, I think, since she's only awake 1 hour out of every 3 and goes down for naps so easily right now. But Karis is still super emotional and has also figured out that I'm not so quick to discipline when I'm nursing. (If you've ever tried to nurse a newborn then you know how much work it is to keep them awake while nursing and get them to latch on correctly -- I hate to put her down if she is doing a good job!) I am going to have to figure out a plan for that this week. She does blanket time well, and I am so thankful I implemented that, but I hate to do it more than once a day or she won't enjoy it so much. So keep me in your prayers! I am looking forward to having some quality time with Karis while Karlie sleeps -- I think that will really help her get back to normal. I have decided to not worry about housework this week and just focus on Karis so I will have my happy, helpful toddler once again!

One Week Old!

I really can't believe that Karlie has been with us for a week -- I was thinking we would be going into labor this weekend and she's already a week old! Its also amazing how much you can love a little baby so quickly!

So far, Karlie has had such an easy, sweet personality. I think she will be much like her sister :) Other than the first nights at the hospital when she wanted to nurse every 45 miutes, we have hardly heard her cry at all! She has already fallen into a nice 3 hour routine -- she wakes up, eats for about 30 minutes, then I try to play with her and keep her awake for another 20-30 minues, and then she will sleep 2 hours. At night, she usually goes right back to sleep after nursing (unless she gets the hiccoughs :) I will say that the swaddle and the Amby bed are my best friends -- I don't think she would be sleeping quite so well without them :)

She is quite the cuddlebug and I just treasure the moments she is awake and loving on her Mama. I love her little voice and she has the cutest sneeze I think I have ever heard in my life :)

Karis is 20 months!

Sorry; I'm a couple of days late on this -- We've had a lot going on this week. Its been all I can do to get pictures up; my mind is much too tired to think to write a lot. But I don't want too much time to pass or I'll forget all that has gone on with Karis this past month!

Obviously, the biggest thing this month in Karis' life happened last week when Karlie was born. All month, we have been playing with baby dolls -- feeding them, loving on them, strolling them around, etc. Karis has really enjoyed it all, although I think her favorite part has been chasing Pup-Pup around with the stroller :) When Karlie was born, Karis was very excited about her from the start. She used to wake up saying "Kitty" or "dog," and running into the rooms to find her favorite pets first thing. Now she wakes up saying "baby" and running to see if Karlie is in the crib in the living room or bedroom :) She always wants to hold her sister and I really haven't seen any signs of jealousy yet. However, Karis did come down with a horribly emotional case of separation anxiety after we were away from her for two days in the hospital. I can't even take a shower without her getting upset wondering if I am there, and she will fall apart if Mark or my Mom don't bring her into the bathroom to see if I'm still there. And she is just way more emotional in general, getting really upset and disobeying a lot more than before. But I know that is normal, especially since I've really never left her for more than a couple of hours and all of a sudden I was gone for 2 1/2 days! But we are just so glad that Karis seems so excited about her new sister!

Verbally, she is still amazing us with what she picks up so quickly! She used to just randomly come up with words, but now we are finding that she is really good at copying our sounds, and really enjoys it, too! So we have fun telling her to say certain things. The funniest to hear is "britches." She also loves to sing! For the longest time, she wouldn't say "Nina," no matter how often we tried to get her to. Then one day, Mark said it in a silly rhythm, "Nina, nina, nina," and she copied him immediately. So now everytime we want her to learn a word, we sing it a cople of times :) Dancing and singing with motions are also favorites. She curently loves dancing around in a circle with her pointer in the air as we sing "This Little Light of Mine." Her other favorite thing to do is push the button on her horsey (it sings a western "Ride 'Em Cowboy" song :) and ride around on her Daddy's back throughout the house.

Housework! Dishes are still the most fun in the world! And if we don't have enough to do them for long, it is a major disappointment! She also knows how to sort the untensils -- I was so proud of her, I must confess :) I only showed her once and she has done it correctly every time since.

Art! She loves everything I do with her -- painting, coloring, chalk, playdough, stickers, etc. I keep a little notepad on the table where I write down anything I think of that I need to do or any groceries I realize that we need. Whenever she sees me write anything, she wants to get a pen and pad and write, too. And its great, because it keeps her occupied for quite a while!

Animal cards! Target has some wild animal and sea animal cards in their dollar section right now that I got for her. She will sit for the longest time while I hand her the card and tell her the animal, putting it in the box and then asking me to do it all over again.

OK, that's all I can think of right now. I guess thats pretty good for a sleep-deprived Mama!

I'm such a fan!

We finally got our Amby bed that I won on ebay! And I really think it has made a difference in Karlie's sleep! The first couple of nights that we were at home without it, she was waking up at least every 2 hours. The very first night we put it up, I had to wake Karlie up for all her feedings! (I know a lot of people say not to wake them up, but I want to make sure she gains weight and I have a good milk supply. So for now, I wake her up every 3 hours or so to feed her :) And she has slept that well ever since! So I must say that I am a big fan of the Amby bed!

Holding Karlie :)

Karis has been very eager to hold Karlie like Mama does. She always runs and gets a burp cloth to put on her shoulder and then climbs on the couch, very excited. Then I put Karlie on her lap and she excitedly says "hi," and points to body parts... and then I have to be quick because she will totally push Karlie away to sqirm down :) Its pretty funny. We are still trying to get her to understand how fragile Karlie is... if you have any advice, let me know. But we are so glad that she wants to cuddle with her sis so much, even for such a short time :)

"Are you sure she can hold me?"
"Big sisters aren't too bad after all!"
Grandma helps make sure Karlie is safe :)
"Whew, all that cuddling wore me out!"

Sleeping in her bath towel :)

Evidently, Karlie can sleep through everything. Today we took her to her 5-day doctor apt. She did great, only squirming a bit while he poked and prodded. He said that she looked absolutely healthy! She had only lost 5 ounces since leaving the hospital, which is pretty good. I praise the Lord for such a healthy baby!

Yep, I'm tired :)

Ok, I definitely was tired last night when I created the poll -- I definitely meant to say Does Karlie look like Karis in stead of does Karis look like Karis, ha, ha. But it won't let me change it since people already voted. But I figure ya'll can figure out what I meant :)

Does she look like her sister?

We are trying to decide if our little sweetie looks at all like her sister. She definitely has less chubby cheeks, but I think she has the same mouth and nose... If you have an opinion, vote in our poll on the sidebar :) And to see some of Karis' newborn pics to compare, click HERE

A very special crib!

We are using this miniature crib in our living room so that I will have somewhere to put Karlie that is out of Pup and Karis' reach. It has worked great so far -- Karlie takes most of her naps there where we can keep an eye on her. This crib has honestly been in my Mom's family for a hundred years! Karlie's Great-grandma, Grandma, and Mama have all slept in it! So its pretty special. My grandmother went to a lot of trouble to get it for us from her extended family and I'm so glad we can carry on the tradition :)

Sleepyhead :)

I know I'm biased, but I think my baby is the cuddliest ever! She just loves to snuggle. She is still in sleepy mode, pretty much just waking up to eat every 2 hours or so and if we are lucky, we will see her eyes for a few minutes. So thats why today's pictures are mainly of her sleeping :) She absolutely LOVES being swaddled and I think she makes the cutest papoose ever!

Snow day!

Not only did Karlie decide to be born on the coldest day of the year, but her first morning at home was covered with snow! Karlie slept the snow day away, but Karis and Daddy and I braved the cold and played in the snow for a while. Karis was very uncertain about the cold, wet, white stuff, but was super excited at the same time :) She preferred to stay on the sidewalk where Daddy had scraped rather than actually walk through the snow drifts.

Karis is so excited about her new sister!

Here are some quick clips from when we first brought Karlie home from the hospital. Karis had been taking a nap, and as soon as she woke up, she ran over to the crib to look. ( We are keeping a little crib in the living room so that I have somewhere to put Karlie where Pup and Karis can't bother her :)

When Karlie started to wake up and make noises, Karis wanted me to get her out of the crib so she could sit with her:

Karis' favorite thing to do is to point and talk about her sister's eyes, nose, and other body parts :)

Bringing Karlie Home!

We finally got to take Karlie home today! We were so ready. I missed Karis so much and was so tired of all the interruptions from the hospital staff.

Here's a pic of Karlie and I waiting to be released.
So little in her carseat!
Ready to bring her inside!
Karis was so glad to see us! She was out of her mind crazy, running around the house squealing. She did quite well with Karlie and was really excited to see her. Overall, Karis was an emotional roller coaster, though, but that was totally expected since she had never been away from her Mama for any amount of time.

Oh, how I love my girls!
Karlie is such a sweetie!
