Potty training a 9 month old?

Karlie just turned 9 months! (monthly update soon to come; waiting on the grandparents to come visit this weekend so I can use their camera.) My amazing friend, Mary, who convinced me to try early potty training, gave me a little potty for Karlie to use. Would you believe that the very first time I set her on it, she tinkled immediately? Yep. And the next time, too! And the next! She even pooped once! It was as if she knew exactly what it was for. There have honestly been very few times in the past week that I have set her on the potty and she hasn't gone at least a little.

Don't worry, though, I'm not going diaperless anytime soon. Karlie still uses her diaper regularly because I am not at all consistent with taking her. (I just set her on the potty whenever Karis goes :). But it is exciting that she seems to know to go in the potty. And that she seems to enjoy sitting there just like her big sister. She just looks at me and grins. I wish I could get a picture of them sitting there together because they are just too cute. Maybe we'll get our camera fixed soon.

I don't know if you've read my blog yet. I enjoy reading and following yours. My daughter is 15 months but has been routinely using the potty since she was 8 weeks old (with help of course). I have written at great length about our potty training journey if you want any more information about "elimination communication" which is very different from early potty training in my opinion. I think the biggest thing is what the intention is. I wanted to teach my daughter how to react to and communicate her need to pee or poop, not just train her that this is where we do it. Congrats to Karlie for recognizing her elimination needs.
